The Navy League San Diego Council entryway into NFCU may be closing. In fact, some are saying it already is closed, the door having swung shut yesterday:

Probably best to read the entire board, all three pages.

This is for reference, since the question has come up:

Federal Credit Union Act

1759 e (2) Retention of membership.—Except as provided in section 1764 of this title, once a person becomes a member of a credit union in accordance with this  subchapter, that person or organization may remain a member of that credit union until the person or organization chooses to withdraw from the membership of the credit union

Thanks for the forum post Kaight. I confirmed with a Navy Fed CSR that the Navy League San Diego can no longer be used to join Navy Fed. Also, you are correct about that paragraph of the Federal Credit Union Act. Once a member, you're always a member.

We will be making updates to the relevant blog posts and to the "big list of credit unions anyone can join" soon. Also, I plan to have a blog post on this disappointing news out by Monday. One thing to remember is that anybody with immediate family members (alive or passed) who have ever served in the Armed Forces are still eligible as I described in this blog post.

I'm glad I grabbed a membership while the door was open, even though I wasn't looking for a CD. Now I'm in and can stay. And they commonly have top of the tier CD promos.

Of course, until Ken just wrote here, I never realized I always could have been in, as while I was not in the military, my father was in the Navy, and Ken says I would be eligible even though he is now dead and never joined a credit union.
