Speaking Of Scams, Be Wary Of HVAC "Rebates"

My wife's cell-phone (which is unpublished) was recently used by an agency purportedly offering "rebates" for HVAC upgrades. My wife met with the representative about 30 minutes ago, and, as we suspected, it was a gimmick. When my wife asked how the company got her cell, the rep replied "from PG&E". Bottom line, privacy policies, such as they exist, are leakier than ever. When a public utility starts selling your information and cell number to the world at large, it's "caveat emptor" out there.

Every other year I have my furnace and air conditioning units checked out. I always go to my gas and to my electric company to see what  rebates they have. They have certain companies that they recommend and I always check with the guys my husband worked with ( he was in construction) and they will tell me which company and which person to request to do the inspection. The rebates are usually $50 to $75 each and the inspections are $75-$80 each. They clean and check everything out and I go down to the basement or outside to watch everything they do. They will clean the coils etc also. Like my cousin said when the water softener was installed and there was no shut offs at the unit that it is called job security. He put them in for me. Now if the unit needs to be brought in I do not have to shut the water off at the place it comes into the house.  I can shut the water off at the unit, use a wrench or channel locks to disconnect it, drain the water and take it in. Your electric and or gas company does give rebates for new units also. Just check their webpage or call them. Also check with IRS. At one time they also gave rebates for upgraded systems.

Never do business with anyone that calls you on the phone. NEVER.
