ACH HICCUP

Never had this happen before.

Trying to set up an external account at bank1, using my external account at bank2.

Went in today to verify trial deposits inside bank2. I only see one ACH trial in, and then out. ?? ... should be two trial deposits, and one withdrawal.

After spending time with BOTH banks, I found out that it was a problem at bank2. They did post only one positive ACH in, and then same amount out. I had to call them a second time, and get an account specialist. BOTH the online system and what was shown to the regular service rep was a single deposit, but the account specialist was able to confirm that in fact two deposits were made, and they were posted as a single combined ACH amount. She was able to provide me with the details on the two trial deposits, and then I was able to verify that transaction.

Point of this post is that if you set up an external account for ACH, and you only get one plus ACH, and same amount being withdrawn .... call that institution and ask for a specialist to look at the internals of that posting. They may in fact show the posting as one, but the transaction was actually two that had been combined into the single posting.

Your bank might have used two deposits and two withdrawals, but that is not required and not what they all do. My main bank uses only one deposit, one withdrawal. Some others I have dealt with over the years have used only one deposit, no withdrawal (the amount apparently is too little for them to bother with).

thanks, me1004. YES, I have seen seen two in and two out as well, and I have seen others leave the pennies as well. Good point. Mine was the first time I saw a two deposit masked as one in my account which made it impossible to verify back at the originating bank.
