I have had very good luck so far with ALLY BANK for both banking services, customer service, and ACH transfers. Most of my financial holdings limit the ACH to something relatively small, like $3-5K ..... but ALLY BANK allows for huge limits, based on your account history. I have done a few over $100K. Only problem is time. Many are done within 24 hours, but some can take 48 hours or more. Still, they can accept or originate LARGE ACH sums, so I try to use them to capture short term windows of CD specials at banks or credit unions.
One other issue. I just hit a snag when trying to move money between my individual account and my wife's individual account. I have been spoiled by credit unions that allow for member to member transfers. ALLY does not have this feature. CSR suggested the use of a joint account, so money can be moved instantly between individual accounts.
( before folks want to add their two cents about the need for individual accounts ....... STOP ... I have valid reasons including IRS tax rates )
Anyway, ALLY BANK is great for avoiding wire fees via their ACH including large transactions. Plus, their savings account pays good interest rates ( near market highs ), so I like this online bank a lot.
