Ally Stops Overdraft Fees For Good

Just got an email from Ally:

we're saying 'so long' to overdraft fees.

Doing right by you has always been our top priority, even when it means challenging the status quo. That’s why during the COVID-19 pandemic, we proactively waived overdraft fees to do our part in helping our customers.

After some learning and reflection, we’ve decided it’s time to do away with overdraft fees once and for all. It makes sense and it’s just the right thing to do.

Beginning immediately, overdraft fees will be eliminated. For now we’ll be reimbursing them, but in a few weeks, they’ll be removed entirely. This means you’ll have one less thing to worry about when it comes to managing your finances. Because we’re not just here to do things the way they’ve always been done — we’re here to do it right.

Welcome news, it's also worth remembering you also can avoid overdraft fees
by simply not opting in to---or, if you already have, by opting out of
overdraft protection. Under federal law, a bank generally cannot charge
you overdraft fees without your consent.

I would venture a guess that 99% of bank customers did not consent to being charged an overdraft fee - they simply grudgingly accept it. So I'd say banks absolutely can charge you overdraft fees without your consent;-p

And the “new” interest rate on the loan to cover the advanced funds/loan is?
