CITI Bank Bonus Delay

Had to contact CITI when I didn't get my $400 bonus for opening a checking and bonus account. Used the chat feature and I was told I had to wait 5 days for an answer. I called after 5 business days and was told my problem was opened 2 days later than I called. So I waited the 2 days and called. Was told needed another 2 days. I asked on the chat for someone to escalate too. Someone else came on chat said I would get bonus in 24 to 48 hours and at 48 hours I logged on and the bonus was posted

. First time ever had a problem getting a bonus.

Yesterday I did get a letter that the problem was opened the day I called and was still under review.

I believe other people have posted they had problems getting bonuses from Citi.

Got a TD Bank bonus a few weeks ago. Wish institutions were like Marcus when it comes to bonuses. They confirm the bonuses and are timely.

With Citi you have to make sure you follow all the rules of the bonus offer to the letter, and keep documentation for every step. They are notoriously slow to pay the bonus, and have at times skipped paying it all together. Several people at the DOC site have had to go the CFPB route to get their bonus. https://www.consumerfinance.gov/complaint/

I'm glad you finally got yours after a tense and prolonged waiting period, but with Citi this seems to be normal for them.

One more thing is to close the account after getting the bonus and make sure you get that documented. I still get emails from Citi telling me that there was logon activity on my account but when I check the account it is closed and inactive. They claim you will receive a letter when you close the account but I have never received any such email or letter. When I log in to the account and click on Citi dashboard, I see: Account Status Closed
