Credit Union Rate Match

A good CSR is a wonderful thing.

I just missed a deal at Quorum by one day. The funds had just hit my savings account and I called in to open a CD only to discover that the deal had expired the day before.

I asked whether they could still give me the deal. The CSR said no ... but they might approve a rate match with another financial institution.

I had just missed 5.25% APY for 36 months for $100K+ and Quorum's new rate for a 36 month jumbo was 4.95% APY. So I asked them to match 5.35% APY for 35 months at Credit Human. To my astonishment, the rate match was approved!

So maybe I got lucky because the money was already in my account and I had just missed the deal by one day. It never would have occurred to me to ask for a rate match, so I really have to thank that CSR. Credit Human subsequently dropped their 24-35 month APY to 5%.

So Quorum FCU is now my favorite credit union. Easy membership if you're interested.

Interesting , I wonder if they would have matched the recent CBC 60 month 5% ? Im not sure but when I spoke to the CD specialist at GTE a few weeks back I strongly got the feeling they would have considered matching too but I never directly asked. I think this is more common than we think among CU’s.
