I was told something interesting not too long ago by an FI that sometimes partners with SaveBetter: When I asked why I couldn't get the same rate with them directly, I was told the reason is that SaveBetter doesn't allow them to offer the same terms directly.
Except... a while back there was an FI offering a nice CD, and the same general terms were available both directly from them or thru SaveBetter (actually the additional terms direct thru them were better, ie one penalty-free withdrawal allowed, missing from the SaveBetter version) -- but the general terms (term length and APY) were the same.
So I don't know if not being allowed to offer the same terms directly is true or not, or maybe was overlooked before or added more recently?
I'm not a fan of SaveBetter myself (to each his own) but thankfully so far, the competative marketplace has meant that I've been able to find the same -- and better -- deals elsewhere outside of SaveBetter. I just wanted to post what I had been told, about FIs who use SaveBetter not being allowed to offer the same terms directly, if it's true.
Interestingly, at the time, the FI I called was nice enough to offer me another type of product that would indeed be a different product type than their SaveBetter offering -- but would, when all was said and done, result in pretty much the same thing in the end, which I thought was decent of them.
