The Difference In Language On Cus Kicking Out Members

Though I'm not affected by any of this, I remember reading some interesting discussions here and elsewhere over the last couple years on Alliant in particular, expelling members without stating why -- and giving no warning to the member beforehand that a meeting to discuss their expulsion would soon be held (if I remember right, I think all Alliant ever does is put a notice up on their office door in Chicago, or some such thing, that no one would ever see, before expelling them).

Well, a relative just the other day showed me a mailing they got from their credit union (SchoolsFirst) who was updating their terms. Unlike Alliant though, the SchoolsFirst language spelled out everything clearly, stated what would constitute them taking such an action, and mentioned that they would notify the person they're considering expelling beforehand, to give them a chance to make their case.

Decent... and quite a difference between them and the secretive way Alliant does it. Honestly, I like Alliant, but why can't they be honest and open about it like other CUs? I hope this will never affect me; I don't do anything questionable or push limits, but I wonder how many other CUs have language regarding the expulsion of members in their terms now...

The problem is right at the tippy top of the organization. Following Mr. Mooney's retirement several years ago, Alliant brought in as leader a man whose entire banking history was with for-profit banking institutions. And from that day forward he has been treating Alliant members as if we were customers, because that is all he knows how to do. How we jettison that guy I dunno. I wish I did know. He is anathema to the entire Alliant membership.

Ok friends, I have a dumb question. I have never been expelled from anything but it got me thinking. If a CU or bank would expel me, do they have to immediately return all my money (assuming I don’t owe them any money)? Irrational things happen in life and the older I get the less I trust people and the corporate world. I have very large figures at some institutions and what happens if one day they want to expel me because I spoke too firmly on the phone with one of their incompetent customer service representatives for telling me wrong information? Could they decide let’s terminate this guy and restrict access to his money? I debated if I should even write this post, but how many people here can say they’ve never seen crazier things happen? Just curious to get your comments.
