Think Past 2030=2033

It just occurred to me that I might want to calculate my estimated annual income from dividends, annual interest earned on CDs AFTER I have cashed in all those IBONDS in 2030 throught 2023, social security, capital gains, and whatever else I normally get. THEN look at the tax brackets I will be in. Perhaps I should adjust how I live based on that period of life, which is, after all, only 8 or 9 years away. If I don't want to be in that ridiculous tax bracket, what should I spend the money on now? My grandkids will unwisely spend it, probably to their detriment. Hmmm....what are the options? Buy real estate and let it stand vacant (no WAY I want to care for properties or renters - not in my nature)? What else could I do? I guess I could buy stocks. I only have 10 percent of my money in stocks (Vanguard total stock market). I really need the treasury to let us buy ibonds in large amounts again. Hmmmm.

Any ideas besides vacant real estate ? (I do have one son who could use it in New York City). Hmmmm Right now I am in a state with a 10 percent income tax but no sales tax, in a modest home. I don't really like flashy things.

There is an outstanding Facebook group you may want to join. I am sure they will have suggestions to offer. It's called: Retirement Planning Education (formerly Taxes in Retirement).

Maybe only have munis in your portfolio when these ibonds put you in that high tax bracket would work

Thankyou. That was very helpful. There is a lot more involved than I was hoping for so I really appreciate the information. Wow

Hows about you buy (unimproved) land? Buy in a good, quiet, private location with a pleasant view. Then go there and pitch a tent from time to time, and relax. If you choose carefully, that land could easily be worth a whole lot more in ten years than it will cost you today.

Downside:

Squatters . . . . if you buy in the wrong state.
