Of all the CUs I've dealt with thru the years I can't remember ever seeing one charge for an incoming wire. After all, the money is coming into them. I know some banks charge for incoming, but it's so rare these days among credit unions that I just had to post on it. Of all the credit unions I'm a member of it's the only one that charges for an incoming wire.
If you want to send something like 100k (the max for their growth CDs) you're pretty much forced to pay the fee to MACU as well as the outgoing fee from where you sent it.
MACU no longer participates in shared branch (they used to), so that option is out. They have a monthly ACH limit on their end, so that's out. Sure you can send it piecemeal ACH from your end, but most places have 25k/day max, meaning for 100k you'd have to do it over 4 (which becomes 5) days - - with often a weekend in there too, meaning you lose about a week's worth of interest. I don't see any other solution.
MACU charges $10 incoming and $15 outgoing. I suppose that's not too bad, as I just spent $30 for an (outgoing) wire at another credit union. But still, I see it as petty to charge for an incoming wire at a credit union these days. Especially because when sending a wire to MACU you have to pay double fees - - from the outgoing place you're sending it from (normal) then to MACU as well for receiving it (not normal at CUs these days.)
