There is a new banner at the top of MACU login page . It says Don’t Tax my Credit Union!

It’s legislation which affects all credit unions. It’s asking members to Take Action and contact their local representatives.

I called another CU today and while on hold the "hold message" said the same thing, to tell your representative not to tax your credit union.

Sorry, but I gotta think how much better it would be if even half of these CUs would skip the political OR OTHER hold messages altogether, and just make more English-speaking CSRs available...

belko,
Shouldn't we be embarrassed that many people born in our country cannot speak more than one language. Though there are many apps that can translate for us when traveling that my children and grandchildren tell me. When we do not travel we are not always exposed to other languages. I have 3 colleges near me with many foreign students but it is hard for me at times also. In the 50's languages was not offered in my school.
It still amazes me when many young children born in our country can now speak two or more languages. Sometimes we have to be more adaptable. I know I do when I shop in my neighborhood.
If I cannot understand what someone says, I can repeat what they said until the part that I did not understand and ask them to repeat that word or phrase after that please, or say I am still having a hard time understanding them ask if another person is available if on the phone. I think it is up to us to be more adaptable.
I do not travel, but I have grandchildren that have traveled and some have stayed in different countries for an extended period of time and sometimes had to learn the language while living and or working there.
Even my children in their 60's speak or can understand more than one language.
Things change, life changes, the world changes and sometimes it is us that have to adapt or miss out on a lot of things we could be sorry we missed.

Growing up in Europe, I learned 5 languages - very helpful and also fun on Netflix.

@darkdreamer
Because of our geographic (and mental) isolation, far fewer polyglots in the US per capita than Europe (unless one counts "Boston", "Georgia Twang", "Hillbilly" and "Valley Girl" as different languages :-)

Don't forget the bastardized French in Louisiana;-p
And the unintelligible German of the Amish in PA/NY and wherever else they have spread to.

Speaking of languages, a humble movie recommendation: "Arrival" from 2016, with Amy Adams. A smart, intellegent movie for adults about language and time. Aliens in giant ships arrive and a linguistics professor is tasked with the job of trying to understand and communicate with them. Very interesting plot device that I won't give away, but intelligent, original and very well done.
