4.75% 11-Month CD at a Houston CU (Associated Credit Union of Texas).

Associated Credit Union of Texas is advertising a 4.75% APY 11-month CD. The minimum deposit is $1,000. New money is required. This special doesn't seem to be listed at the credit union's website. It was advertised in yesterday's Houston Chronicle. The ad is available online here.

The credit union also has other competitive rates listed on its rate page with a yield of 4.60% APY for terms from 12 to 60 months with a minimum deposit of $50K. The rate table has a date of Feb 1, 2008, so hopefully these rates will be around for a while. These rates may not sound that great, but after the recent massive Fed rate cuts, mid-to-high 4-percent rates are hard to find for CDs. As a comparison, the highest rate that Bankrate currently lists for CDs with terms from 1 to 5 years is only 4.45% APY for a 5-year CD at Eastern Savings Bank.

Membership is open to anyone who lives, works or worships in Brazoria or Galveston County, or within a 10-mile radius of one of the credit union's branches. Membership is also open to employees of select employee groups. Please see the credit union's Membership page for more details. Membership requires a $1 minimum deposit in your Share Savings Account.

Branches are located in Houston and areas south of Houston. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 60608). It has $227.3 million in assets and 36,909 members.
