Provident Credit Union is offering a special IRA certificate with a yield of 5.00% APY for a 60-month term. To be eligible for this special yield requires that you either 1) transfer an IRA of $10K or more from another financial institution, or 2) open or have a qualifying checking or loan product at Provident. Without meeting these requirements, the yield is 4.75% APY.
Provident Credit Union has been offering many good deposit deals in the past. They're still offering a 5.51% APY reward checking account (see post). Also, members of Provident are eligble to open a Zopa one year CD which currently has a yield of 4.25% APY (see post).
Field of membership includes members of several associations. Some of the associations listed with national coverage include the American Cancer Society and the Sierra Club and Sierra Club Foundation. The Sierra Club has a membership page where you can become a member online. The lowest membership level costs $25.
For those in California, you can be immediately eligible to join if you live or work in one of the following counties: San Mateo, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa, Monterey, Sacramento, El Dorado, Placer and Humboldt. Membership into the credit union requires a $10 membership fee, but this is waived if you apply online. A minimum deposit of $25 is required into the share savings account.
The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 66343). It's a large credit union with $1.5 billion in assets and 95,102 members.
