5.00% 48-Month CD at Washington Mutual

Sep 26, 2008 - 9:32 AM by Ken Tumin

Update 9/26/08: WaMu closed. JPMorgan Chase acquires WaMu's banking operations. Please refer to this post for more details.

Washington Mutual has increased the rate on its long-term Traditional CDs to 5.00% APY. The terms range from 48 to 120 months. The minimum deposit is $1,000. The rate may vary by state. You have to enter your zip code to see the rate table. I've confirmed the 5% APY for zip codes in California, Florida, Texas, New York and Illinois.

WaMu also has some competitive short term rates on its Online CDs which include a 4% APY 12-month CD. I posted on these last Saturday. For more details about these Online CDs, WaMu CDs in general and the latest WaMu news, please refer to my Saturday WaMu post.

WaMu is FDIC insured under two banks (Washington Mutual Bank FSB and Washington Mutual Bank).

Other High Certificate of Deposit Rates

It appears Wachovia is still offering a special 5% APY for a shorter term of 36 months. It also has other very competitive rates for shorter terms (see post). Note, Wachovia's website only lists the 7 and 12-month CD specials. You have to call to confirm the other rates (and they may not be available in all states). My last confirmation of these was in June. I tried to call yesterday, but I couldn't get through after waiting about 10 minutes.

To review other high rate CDs available nationwide, please refer to my CD rates summary.
