2.50% 12-Month CD & 2.75% 24-Month CD at GreenBank in TN - Local Only
Aug 31, 2009 - 10:47 AM by Ken Tumin
GreenBank is offering two very competitive CD rates: 2.50% APY for a 1-year term and 2.75% APY for a 2-year term. Minimum deposit is $1,000. These rates don't seem to be listed at the bank's website. A reader emailed me info on these, and I just called today (8/31/09) and confirmed that they're still available. The CSR didn't know how much longer they would last.
Yesterday I posted on the bank's $100 checking account bonus (see post).
I was told that a branch visit is required to open a CD. The bank has branches throughout Tennessee including the cities of Knoxville, Nashville, Greeneville, Morristown and Clarksville.
GreenBank's ratings for safety and soundness are fair: 3½ stars (good) at BauerFinancial and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 3/31/09 financial data. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 895).
Other Competitive Certificate of Deposit Rates

I just called them a minute ago and the rates are still the same....early withdrawal penalities depend on how much you take out....if I go there, I will leave another comment.
