The bank also lists some other good deals as of 10/25/09 at the promotions page. There's a checking account with a 1.25% APY for balances of at least $5,000 and a money market account with a 1.50% APY for balances of at least $5,000. Also, it lists some competitive CD rates: 2.00% APY 12-month CD, a 2.12% APY 24-month CD and a 3.50% APY 60-month CD. Minimum deposit is $5,000, and a new Relationship or BestRate checking account is required to receive these rates.
It appears that a branch visit is required to open an account. Branches are located in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Nassau in New York.
The bank's ratings for safety and soundness are above average: 4 stars (excellent) at BauerFinancial and 3 stars (performing) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 6/30/09 financial data. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1943 (FDIC Certificate # 16049).

BankingGuy - Was looking through your local NY CD rates and thought I'd bring this Credit Union to your attention: CFCU Community Credit Union in NY. 10-month Jumbo rate is 2.27% but for premiere members of the CU the rate gets bumped up to 2.77% (an additional 0.50%).

If you happen to be in the area, even with an out of state address, they will let you open an account at a branch.
