$200 Checking Account Bonus at New KeyBank Branches in Colorado - Local Only

KeyBank is offering a $200 bonus that's only available at their new Colorado branches. It requires that you open a qualifying relationship package checking account by 12/4/09 and make one debit card transaction and a combination of two direct deposits and/or automatic payments each of $100 or more by 2/5/10.

This checking bonus doesn't seem to be listed at KeyBank's website. It was recently advertised in the Denver Post. The ad is available here.

In addition to this checking bonus, KeyBank also has a Grand Opening CD Sale with a 1.75% APY 16-month CD and a 2.75% APY 32-month CD. Neither of these two CDs are that competitive. These specials are listed at this KeyBank webpage.

These new branches are located in the Colorado cities Denver, Aurora, Louisville, Littleton, Centennial and Thornton.

KeyBank's ratings for safety and soundness are a little weak: 3 stars (adequate) at BauerFinancial and 2 stars (below peer group) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 6/30/09 financial data. KeyBank N.A. has been a FDIC member since 1956 (FDIC Certificate # 17534).

Change at KeyDirect

KeyBank's internet division, KeyDirect, recently announced that it's no longer accepting new customers. As I described in this post KeyBank has been hit hard in this financial crisis and they may have decided that focusing on their market areas will help them get back to profitability.
