$100 Checking Account Bonus at Citizens Bank in Several States

POSTED ON BY

Citizens Bank
Citizens Bank has a checking account promotion in which you can earn $100. The details of the checking account bonus are listed at www.citizensbank.com/holidayoffer. Offer ends 12/15/2009. The requirements to earn the $100 include:
  • $50 for setting up direct deposit of $50 or more
  • $25 for making 5 online bill payments
  • $25 for making 5 signature-based debit card or credit card purchases
The Green Checking qualifies for this bonus, and it's a free checking account with no monthly fees. Minimum opening balance is $50.

The Green Checking also qualifies for the Green$sense program. Citizens Bank says you can get paid up to $120 per year in Green$ense. However, this would require 100 debit card purchases, online bill payments or automatic payments per month for 12 months. For each of these non-paper transactions, Citizens Bank pays you 10 cents.

There's an online application at the promotions page. However, it only accepts zip codes in their market area. Their market area includes Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Citizens Bank operates under two FDIC charters: Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania (FDIC Certificate # 57282) and RBS Citizens, N.A. which has branches in several states outside of PA and NJ (FDIC Certificate # 57957).

"complete the requirements by December 31, 2009"

Very stingy time allotment there for all that requirements you have to do. God forbid something was to get lost in the mail and you could easily miss the date especially in this busy holiday season.

And they give themselves until Feb 27, or about 90 days, to pay out the bonus.

I'm sorry, but Citizens Bank is not very accurate. I searched their branch locator, and there are no brances or Citizens Bank ATMs in the state of New Jersey. NJ.

Anybod know if there is a hard/soft pull?

Application says "I authorize the Bank to obtain a credit report or other report or account information from credit or information services agencies to help verify the information I provided in this application and facilitate the processing of my application for this account or for any other lawful purpose."

Also it asks for a promotional code, offer page doesn't mention a code.

I strongly suggest using a different bank. While Citizens Bank makes there benefits appear  great, once you have an account they will take everything they can with fees and service charges. $100.00 will not even cover your service charges for the first year! Do a search on the Citizen Bank blogs and you wont find much positive feedback. Im closing my account there and NEVER going back!
