In the last five months CD rates have continued to fall. For example, last August, I had nine banks and credit unions offering nationally available 5-year CDs with yields of at least 3.00%. Now there's only one on the list with a 3.00% APY, and that requires an active checking account. So it's a nice surprise to see that Digital Credit Union continues to offer the same CD and IRA CD rates as when I posted on these CDs in August.
Below are some of the best CD rates as listed in the DCU's rates page as of 1/24/2011. Note, these require a $25K minimum deposit ($500 for IRA) and the Loyalty Checking Plus relationship.
- 3.01% APY 5-year CD
- 2.51% APY 4-year CD
- 1.51% APY 1-year Add-On CD
- 1.35% APY 6-month Add-On CD
Without Loyalty Checking Plus relationship you'll earn 0.25% less than the rates shown above. Please refer to DCU's Loyalty Checking page to learn how to qualify for Loyalty Checking Plus.
The CD details are listed at the bottom of the DCU Certificate Application Checklist. The early withdrawal penalty for terms of 3 to 5 years is up to 180 days of dividends on the amount withdrawn.
For more details about other DCU certificates and other DCU perks like the remote deposit feature and free FICO credit scores, please refer to my August DCU review.
