$150 Checking Account Bonus at Flushing Bank in New York City - Local Only

POSTED ON BY

Flushing Bank

Flushing Bank is again offering a $150 checking account bonus for opening one of its checking accounts. Both its Totally Free Checking and its BestRate Checking qualify. The requirements to qualify for the bonus include:

  • $75 for 5 debit card transactions of $25 or more, AND
  • $75 for 5 bill pays online of $25 or more OR for recurring Direct Deposit of $250

Here's the link to the promotions page that was on Flushing Bank's website on 3/7/2012. I don't see an expiration date. Below is a copy of the offer's small print:

New checking account with new money only. Existing checking account customers are not eligible. This offer is limited to one checking account per household. Minimum deposit required to open a new checking account is $100. Debit Card Purchases – You will receive $75 for the completion of 5 debit card purchases. Each debit card purchase must be $25 or more. Online Banking Bill-payments OR Direct Deposit – You will receive $75 for completing 5 online banking bill-payments via Flushing Bank’s Online Banking portal OR signing up for and receiving a recurring direct deposit of $250 or more. Each online bill-pay must be $25 or more. Tax refunds do not qualify as direct deposits. Online Bill-payments, Debit Card Purchases and Direct Deposits must be completed prior to 60 days after the account is opened. THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT ANY CUSTOMER CAN RECEIVE IS $150. The compensation will be credited to the checking account on or about 75 days after the account is opened. A 1099 will be issued in the amount credited to your account. Other fees and restrictions may apply.

It appears that a branch visit is required. In addition to the Totally Free Checking, the BestRate Checking also qualifies. There's also a perk with the BestRate Checking with a promo rate of 1.11% APY guaranteed for the first 90 days. Existing or past checking account customers are not eligible. The downside with the BestRate Checking is a $10 monthly fee unless you maintain a $5K balance. This Flushing checking comparison page has a good summary of the two checking accounts.

Flushing Bank branches are located in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan and Nassau in New York.

The bank has an internet division called iGObanking.com which also includes the site GiftsforBanking.com (see review).

Flushing Bank's overall health score is 3 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 26.16% (average) based on December 2011 data. Please see our financial overview of Flushing Bank for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 16049).

Other Bank Bonuses

Another large New York City bank that's still offering a $150 checking account bonus is Valley National Bank (see my review).

We have a bank promotions page with a table of all of the active bank and credit union promotions. You can filter the table based on the type of promotion and based on your state. I have more details about how to use this page in this blog post.
