Bryn Mawr Trust regularly has checking account promotions that offer some new electronic gadget. Its latest promotion offers a free Amazon Kindle Fire HDX for opening a BMT Free Checking account and for completing certain activities. As is typical for checking account bonuses, it requires direct deposit. The promotion isn’t listed at the bank’s website. A scan of a newspaper ad of this offer was posted by FW member Treefarn in this FW thread. The offer is scheduled to last until March 31, 2014. Below is a list of what’s required to qualify for the bonus:
- Must be a new BMT Free Checking Account customer who opens account with at least $100 initial deposit by March 31, 2014
- 8 debit card purchases by May 30, 2014
- 2 ACH payroll direct deposits of at least $500 or 1 government direct deposit of at least $500 by May 30, 2014
- Sign up for e-statements by May 30, 2014
Some important small print includes:
One Kindle per household; prior promotional participants are not eligible. Current clients with a consumer checking account at Bryn Mawr Trust, or employees and family household members of Bryn Mawr Trust, its parent, subsidiaries and affiliated companies are not eligible. On-line account openings do not qualify. Offer expires March 31, 2014, or while supplies last.
One important point about a gadget bonus is that the bank will typically include the value of the gadget on your 1099. According to Amazon, the Kindle Fire HDX with built-in WiFi, 16GB of memory and a 7" screen has a cost of $229.
The BMT Free Checking Account has no minimum balance requirements and no monthly service fee. It offers free online banking, mobile banking and online bill pay. It’s nice to see a checking account promotion with a free checking account.
