Apple Federal Credit Union Adds Pi Day 314-Day CD, 3.14% APY

To mark the occasion, Apple Federal Credit Union (Apple FCU) is offering a Pi Day Certificate (314 days) earning an appropriate 3.14% APY.

For a limited-time, we’re offering a sweet Pi Day deal.
But don't wait... this treat is only available March 14 - 16.

The minimum opening deposit is $500 of new money, with a maximum deposit per individual of $31.4k. New money is defined as funds “not currently at Apple FCU.”

Partial withdrawals are not permitted, only an early closure. As stated in the fine print on the promotion page, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows

If the term is over 6 months to 60 months – the lesser of
dividends earned since issuance or renewal or 180 days dividends.

There is a 10-day grace period before the Pi Day Certificate automatically renews as a 12-month Certificate.

Availability

Headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, Apple Federal Credit Union has a variety of ways to qualify for membership.

Easy membership (limited): Residents of Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. can qualify for Apple FCU membership by joining the Northern Virginia Athletic Directors, Administrators, and Coaches Association (NVADACA) with a $20 regular membership fee.

Residency: U.S. citizens and resident aliens who live, work, worship, volunteer, or attend school in the Virginia counties of Fairfax, Frederick, or Prince William, or the Virginia cities of Fairfax, Manassas, or Manassas Park are eligible to join.

Educational Relationship: The faculty, staff, students, and their immediate family members of 12 Virginia public school systems qualify for membership, as do the faculty, staff, alumni, students, and their immediate family members of George Mason University, Northern Virginia Community College, and Shenandoah University.

SEGs: Employees and members of more than 65 companies and organizations are membership eligible.

Personal Relationship: Immediate family members (spouse, parent, child, sibling, grandparent, grandchild, including step and adoptive relationships) of current AFCU members are welcome to apply. Household members (roommates, domestic partner, and legal guardians) also qualify.

Joining Apple FCU can be done online, or at any of 22 Virginia branches located in Alexandria (2), Ashburn, Centreville, Chantilly, Fairfax (3), Fairfax Station, Falls Church (2), Gainesville, Herndon, Manassas (2), Springfield, Stafford, Sterling, Vienna, Winchester (2), and Woodbridge.

Even though Apple FCU website indicates you can join without being in-state if you belong to one of their supported organizations, they currently are not accepting out of state applications. Didn't find out until after calling to confirm receipt of application.

Q: Is credit union membership open to members of the National PTA and other organizations on your eligibility list, or is it restricted to employees only?
A: Membership is limited to the employees of the organizations listed on the eligibility list.

Higher Long-Term CD Rates at Apple Federal Credit Union - Easy Membership

We are starting to see some increases in long-term CD rates. The latest rate hike occurred at Apple Federal Credit Union which increased its 7-year and 10-year CD rates. Its 10-year CD rate is now 3.50% APY (was 3.25%), and its 7-year CD rate is now 3.00% APY (was 2.60%). Minimum deposit is $500, and these are also available as an IRA CD. Special 14-Month IRA CD at Apple Federal Credit Union - Easy Membership

Apple Federal Credit Union has again started the year with an IRA CD special. The rate is not as competitive as last year, but it's a decent deal in today's low-rate environment.
