The title is only somewhat hyperbolic.
I'd never heard of Advancial before I stumbled upon that now famous thread started by Steve58 alerting the DA populace of Advancial's then probably world-leading rate(5.40% APY) on a 5 year jumbo(min $50k) CD towards the end of (late November 2023) year. Even as everyone and their father were trying to get in and open up a CD with them before we all thought the rate would fall on that upcoming first of December, they still got me in(I furiously sent eMails back and forth with first line CSRs and then the actual manager of the specific Advancial branch location in TX to which their application process routed all Dog Agility Association applications to, sending Driver's License files and receiving and sending back DocuSign forms) even though the website application process was/is bugged and wouldn't accept ID file uploads(see other threads on Advancial's page). After eventually becoming a member literally the night prior to the last day of the month, spoke to a CSR that same late afternoon prior to wiring in money and she said she'd open the CD as soon as the wire was in and the next morning by about 9:00AM PST she actually did what she said she would! A rare event in my experience, and the funds were CD'd and it was opened on the 30th of November.
Since then I've opened a credit card with Advancial as well and it's also the best card I've had(lowest APR, good bonus structure, high(ish) limit, etc). Their mobile app is also great and allows you to do nearly everything you can via the browser access and more banks should have a snappy/quick-loading and responsive design as this one is. I prefer the web browser option just 'cause spoiled for choice.
Overall super happy with everything regarding my nearly 1.5 year tenure with them; some small niggling issues remain, namely the inability to change one's credit card payment date from the one assigned at card disbursement(as other threads on here discuss, the issue lies with the way Advancial resells/markets that debt on the secondary/tertiary market) and also that initial issue of the website not wanting to work with the DL file(s) uploads. Also, their ACH pulls and pushes are slow so I just push to them from other accounts and as they're a relatively small credit union, my hub-bank/main checking(Citibank) could/would not allow me to link the account to it so I have to send to another account I've at UFB Direct/Axos and then send to Advancial when I've to pay my monthly credit card bill so a small negative there for the hassle.
Otherwise really great and hopefully the exemplary experience continues for the duration of my CD(matures end of November '28) and beyond. If you've got trepidation, don't. Just stay within FDIC insurance and GGs.
I wasn't a member of Advancial, but saw they were offering excellent rates on their certificates.
For me, setting up an account was easy: uploading my driver's license and answering a few questions, and it only took a couple of days for Advancial to be ready to accept a wire from another institution. Once the money was in my Advancial account, it was very easy to buy the certificate on the Advancial site.
I've opened many new accounts at banks across the country to capture the highest CD rates, I don't think I've ever had a smoother experience.
The US dog agility association membership (TX0000) made it quick and easy to open. I did not like the photo uploading hassle in their application form, so would suggest interacting by email for that. The person who helped me through it was very prompt as well as patient. It is unusual to find a bank which has the best long term rates in the country yet is so good with customer service.
