Great experiences with Cal Coast

I've had very positive experiences with Cal Coast Credit Union, since switching from a global bank. I use their checking and savings accounts, as well as some other services from time to time. Enrolling was easy, and there was a slight cash bonus. One nice service is that they offer one free cashiers check a day, so if you aren't a heavy check user you won't even need to buy checks. The online interface to access your accounts is a bit outdated but is perfectly usable, has all the information you need, and seems secure, with two factor authentication. I've used the online interface to transfer between my accounts many times without any issue. They also have an e-statements program that you can use if you prefer to be able to look at all your statements online.

Credit Check Hard Pull

Posted by: |

This one historically has required all membership applicants to go through a hard pull credit check. Even to become a savings-only member or a checking account-only member. Hard pulls should only be for loans. They reduce credit scores and may prevent banks (Chase especially) from issuing you THEIR products for up to 2 years. Ask first, responses of "we look at everyone's credit" which refuse to be clear about hard/soft pulls always means hard pull. There ARE many local competitors, commercial banks and credit unions, that are customer-friendly and do not do this.
