Last week, Commerce National Bank & Trust (CNB&T) raised the rate on its 60-month CD to 3.30% APY. The minimum deposit is $500, with no stated balance cap.

In the past six months, a total of 189 bps have been added to the 60-month CD’s rate in three rate increases.

According to CSR, the Early Withdrawal Penalty for the 60-month CD is only six months interest on the amount being withdrawn. There is also a ten calendar day grace period, before the 60-month CD automatically renews.

Availability

Headquartered in Winter Park, Florida, Commerce National Bank & Trust’s market area is primarily Orange County, but according to CSR, “out-of-area people are welcome to apply for an account in-branch.”

Opening any type of account with CNB&T must be done at the single Florida branch, located on South Orlando Avenue in Winter Park.

CNB&T’s online platform is currently limited to account management and bill payment services. The Bank has also joined the Publix Presto ATM network, “allowing our debit card customers to use any Presto ATM service-charge-free!”

Commerce National Bank & Trust celebrated its 15th anniversary this past February, but the Bank’s roots go back to 1986 when the National Bank of Commerce (NBC) began serving the residents of Central Florida. In 2000, NBC was acquired by Wachovia, and following the merge of Wachovia and First Union, the NBC branches were slated to be closed. In 2002, a group of investors led by Ray Colado (CNB&T’s current President) submitted an application for a national bank charter. Commerce National Bank of Florida opened its doors for business in 2003 in the original NBC building. In 2006, trust powers were granted and the Bank was renamed Commerce National Bank & Trust.

It's difficult to find decent CD rates anywhere in the nation, but it's especially difficult in Florida. I'm always on the lookout for a bank or credit union with competitive CD rates in a large populated area of Florida. I found one today at Commerce National Bank & Trust which is located in the Orlando metro area. Its most competitive CD is a 2-year term which has a 1.51% APY. Minimum deposit is $500.
