For more than two years, Pioneer Federal Credit Union (PFCU) has been offering a series of CD Specials with competitive rates. The most competitive of these are the 13-month CD Special (1.35% APY) and 25-month CD Special (1.65% APY). The minimum deposit for either CD Special is $500, with no balance cap.
Both CD Specials are also available as IRAs (Traditional, Roth, or CESA) earning the same APYs, with the same funding requirements.
When I spoke to CSR, I asked if "CD Special" implied a specific time frame. CSR informed me that "CD Special" refers to a special rate, rather than a special time frame. CSR also stated that there was a possibility of the rate changing on the first of the month, so the current rates are good through October.
In a Live Chat, CSR stated the Early Withdrawal Penalty for either CD Special is "all dividends that have been earned up to 180 days."

Headquartered in Mountain Home, ID, Pioneer Federal Credit Union (NCUA Charter # 9247) was originally chartered in 1954 as the Civilian Employees Federal Credit Union. The name was soon changed to Mountain Home Air Force Base Federal Credit Union to better represent its membership. With a membership expansion that included more community members, a name was needed that would accurately describe the community. "Pioneer" was chosen, as Mountain Home was originally the Post Office at Rattlesnake Station, a stagecoach stop on the Overland Stage Line. Today, PFCU is Idaho’s 5th largest credit union with 40,700+ members and assets in excess of $371 Million.
