Skyla Credit Union is headquartered in Charlotte and is the 8th largest credit union in the state of North Carolina. It is also the 302nd largest credit union in the nation. Field of Membership Restrictions
Membership in Skyla Credit Union is available through membership in the American Consumer Council. Membership is also extended to those who live, work, worship, or attend school in the North Carolina counties of Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, or Union or the South Carolina counties of Chester, Lancaster, or York. Employees of Parsons Corporation, Worley Corporation, or Parsons Complex Tenants who work in Pasadena, California are also eligible to join. Family members of a current Skyla Credit Union member are welcome to apply.

Best Banking Experience
A friendly environment has been created at Skyla’s Huntersville branch. Today we had the pleasure of working with Dee, one of their managers. To say Dee is knowledgeable would be an understatement. She patiently walked us through each option, explaining the pros & cons specific to our desired outcome. It was more like sitting with a friend having an easy, open conversation. We made our decision, confident that it’s absolutely the best choice. Dee wasted no time getting all the paperwork in order. Signed, sealed and delivered! We’ll be referring to her as “Five Star Dee” from now on! THANK YOU DEE!!!
No Longer 5 Star
Although the Huntersville branch is closer I prefer the University branch.
After the Huntersville branch moved to its new location, service seemed go down hill. It's only gotten worse with the merger.
Staff doesn't seem to be as knowledgeable or personable as previously, bordering on rude.
On many occasions I been privy to personal discussions (lunch orders, etc.); had employees be lax with my personally identifying information; had an employee ASSUME why I was visiting the branch instead of asking me; left the branch without a receipt, return to the branch to request my receipt, being told I DID get a receipt, then employee accessed my account WITHOUT getting any id or asking my name (was my account still sitting open on her screen AFTER I left the branch?) to print my receipt
They could all use REAL customer service training as well as trained on regulations for keeping customer information confidential.
I've been a member for over a decade so I don't want to leave but I AM researching other credit unions options in my area.
Not Good For Deposits Like Cds
This Credit Union sometimes has competitive interest rates for Certificates of Deposits (CDs). You will need to become a “member” to be able to invest money in their CDs. Somewhere buried in their terms and conditions they tell you that they will make a hard inquiry against your credit history. While this make sense if you want to get a loan from Skyla, there is no reason to do this when Skyla borrows money from YOU. You end up with a hard inquiry on your credit history, which stays there for 2 years and affects your credit score negatively. From the outside it looks like you applied for a loan from Skyla but ultimately did not qualify for it.
