ClearChoice Money Market

In July 2014, I wrote about BBVA Compass’ promotional guarantee of 1.00% APY on balances up to $2.5 Million through 2015. While that promotion is long gone, BBVA Compass dramatically raised the rate on its ClearChoice Money Market in August 2015 by 105 basis points, followed by a much more modest 10 basis point increase in November 2015. Currently, the ClearChoice Money Market earns 1.20% APY on balances between $10K and $5 Million; balances over $5 Million earn 0.25% APY, while balances below $10K earn 0.05% APY.

Application does not offer beneficiaries, only a joint owner. To add a beneficiary you must go to a bank, per a customer service rep.

I opened this CD in branch and had no problems with adding beneficiaries -- Also they have a money market of 1.20 per cent - interest amount specific to deposit.  This better than a one year CD which is tied up.

Assuming they don't drop the rate on the MM acct.

The Rep said the interest rate on the MMA would be good for a year --although I am a tad skeptical about this comment.

Clear choice is a very good choice if the rate does not drop.  Must be opened online and may be confirmed in person.  Be aware that ACH transfers are $3.00 per transfer.  Wire transfers (same day) are $15.00 per transfer.  Cashier's checks are $8.00.  You may get temp checks for $1.00 per check if available at the branch.  Cash is free, but no more than $10K.  So the money market pays good, but it costs to get it out.
