When & How To PM Vs. When To Just Post On DA?

I'm a new member of DA & new to posting (Although I've been using DA to periodically check for rates for a long time, I only recently in the last few months began reading articles & comments). I can't find any place on the website that has guidelines for member usage & instructions for specifics. Is there a usage instructions link?

Like, when is it appropriate to PM someone instead of just posting a comment under their comment? A little while ago I had a specific question about an experience that someone had with Credit Human that they only mentioned in passing in a comment on Hyperion, & I posted my question to them as a reply under that comment but wondered if I should be sending them a PM. And how do you PM??

And, how can I follow that thread to know whether the person answered my question? (How can I follow any particular comments without having to continually go back to that page & scroll down to see if any new comments have been added)?

Thanks, Ken, for making this such a comprehensive & useful resource, & thanks to the community for making it so interesting & entertaining. (I feel like I already know many of you from your comments).

BT4 , Unfortunately, for whatever reason many DA users just post tidbits helter-skelter, here and there so unless you happen to be reading a particular post you might miss something that could have and probably should have been posted as a new post or a new deal instead of just a comment mixed among many others that don't really have anything to do with the topic. That probably won't change and as a matter of fact I just private messaged another DA user this morning pertaining to a post I read that I thought they had asked about a week or so ago. They may not have seen it mixed in with other postings that weren't relevant to the specific topic in the title. As far as how to send a private message, click on the posters user name in the article and follow through. You can then set up notifications from your account page to learn if a member has replied to you as well as read any of the comments that you have posted or commented on. As far as a users page that details alll of that I'm not sure that one exists. Hopefully that is helpful.

Thank you - that is VERY helpful!
In replying to you right now here, I see a checkbox below this comment box here marked "Subscribe to Comments". When does is that option offered? Is it only because I started this comment link? (I don't recall seeing that option in the original situation I asked about).
