I was helping an older relative with their shredding of old tax boxes today, and happened to see the following, printed on Alliant's December 31st 2016 paper statement:
ANNOUNCING ALLIANT'S 81st ANNUAL MEETING OF THE MEMBERS!
Alliant's 2017 Annual Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 9:30am to 10:00am CST at Alliant Headquarters located at 11545 West Touhy Avenue, Chicago, IL 60666. This meeting is open to all members of Alliant.
Wow.
Back then, Alliant properly informed their members of the Annual Meeting, instead of going out of their way to keep the information secret, as they do now. (Interesting that back then, it only needed to be 30 minutes).
I have no idea if this is still the address where their now-hidden meetings are held, but I would assume so, as it's still their corporate address. Except now, on Alliant's own website, it says the public is no longer allowed there:
As of 2/24/24, Alliant's website (under "About") still shows this address as being their "Corporate Offices" -- but now says: "Not open to the public. No branches or ATMs." So, would they bar the public from entering now if one somehow actually managed to find out when their Annual Meeting (required to be open to the public) was, breaking the rule that it's to be open to the public? Or have they switched to holding it in a nearby bar? (I doubt it).
For what it's worth, I also came across the Dec 2017 and Dec 2018 statements while shredding today, but those years did NOT mention the meeting (at least in the December statements, which were the only ones my relative kept). What changed between Dec 2016 and Dec 2017?
At any rate, I happened across this right when Alliant is likely holding their Annual Meeting (going out of their way to make sure none of their members can actually attend), so I wanted to post this here for posterity. I started a new thread to make it more easily found for anyone in the months/years to come.
