5.51% 9-Month CD at a Texas Bank (First Community Bank)

First Community Bank
First Community Bank is offering a 5.51% APY 9-month certificate of deposit. The minimum deposit is $1,000. This special CD doesn't seem to be offered at all of the bank's branches. It's only listed at First Community Bank The Woodlands and at First Community Bank Fort Bend.

Branches for the First Community Bank The Woodlands are located in the Texas cities of Huntsville, Trinity, Tomball and The Woodlands. Branches for the First Community Bank Fort Bend are located in Sugar Land and Richmond which are in the southwest suburbs of Houston.

Each of these First Community Banks are separately FDIC insured (FDIC Certificate # 34475 and FDIC Certificate # 26435).

I opened an account at the branch near First Colony mall, next to a Wolfgang Puck. The account opening was fast and easy. The 5.51% APY is a 5.4% rate based on the daily balance, but paid quarterly so your principle will only increase twice during the term of the CD (The third at maturity) After maturity the rate falls to the current 6 month rate at a 9 month term. It's a good rate and a good bank for those who don't have the 10K to toss around for the better rates. Online banking requires either a branch visit, or a faxed enrollment sheet signed by the account holder to set up. They will then send you your login credentials which you can change.
