LA Financial Still Listing a 5.75% 13-Month CD Promotion.

LA Financial Credit Union
Update 2/2/08: CD special has ended. Please check the credit union's website for the latest rates.

LA Financial Credit Union is still listing its 5.75% APY 13-month certificate special on its home page (rotating image). It's also still listed in their rate table. The 5.75% APY requires a new checking account with direct deposit. Without the checking account, the yield is 5.25% APY. The minimum deposit is $1,000. At least half of the deposit must be new money. It also can be opened as an IRA certificate.

I first reported on this promotion in this December post. A commenter had mentioned that this was scheduled to end in December, but it was extended. I would expect this to end at any day.

Membership is open to those who live, work, worship, volunteer or attend school in Los Angeles County, California. Membership is also open to anyone who lives or works in Lake Havasu City, Arizona through Havasu Community Credit Union (a division of LA Financial CU). Please refer to LA Financial CU's membership page and Havasu Community CU's membership page for more details. The credit union has a $5 membership fee, and there's a $5 minimum deposit required for the savings account. A minimum $100 balance in the savings account (or $2.5K combined balance of all savings and loans) is required to avoid a $3/month fee (see savings account info).

Branches are located in Los Angeles, Pasadena and Norwalk, CA, and in Lake Havasu, AZ. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 2024). It has $288.2 million in assets and 34,419 members.

Thanks to the reader who emailed me about this promotion continuation.

I was told by CSR that 13 month promo will be ending at the end of January.

At the Norwalk branch, the CSR know what they are doing with courtesy when I opened CDs in late Dec.07 for this rate. If you ask about NCUA, they will help you to set yours up.
If you mail your application in, It may take weeks for them to process, since they require proof of address, work, ... and your finger print. So I suggest you walk in. For direct deposit, it can be any amount, I asked. Beautyt42.

I opened this CD today with no problem. Looks like it will end tomorrow. Anyone with a relatively large deposit amount who lives in LA would be a fool not to jump on this. CD rates will be around 4% by next week.
