2.75% 18-Month CD at Alliance Bank in Northern Virginia - Local Only

Alliance Bank is offering a special 2.75% APY 18-month CD. Minimum deposit is $2,500. The special is listed on the bank's home page and in this promotional page as of 6/08/09.

This rate had been 3.25% when I posted on it in February. The rate fell to 2.75% in April and had remained at 2.75%.

It appears that a branch visit is required to open an account. Branches are located in the Washington DC suburbs of Annandale, Ballston, Fair Lakes, Manassas park, Reston and Tysons Corner, Virginia.

The bank's ratings for safety and soundness are weak: 2 stars (problematic) at BauerFinancial and 1 star (lowest) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 12/31/08 financial data. The bank has been FDIC insured since 1998 (FDIC Certificate # 34664).
