2.10% 12-Month CD & 2.50% 24-Month CD at The Mint National Bank in Texas - Local Only

The Mint National Bank is offering some competitive CD and savings account rates. The two most competitive CD rates are the 2.10% APY 12-month CD and the 2.50% APY 24-month CD. Minimum deposit is $1,000. These same rates are also available in an IRA. The bank's savings account has tiered rates with the top rate of 2.10% APY for balances of at least $50,000. The rate is also competitive for balances of $10,000 to $50,000 with a 1.85% APY. These rates are listed at the bank's rates page as of 11/06/09.
The Mint National Bank is a small bank that was just established last January. Its office is located at 1213 Kingwood Drive, Kingwood, Texas which is about 20 miles north of Houston. A branch visit appears to be required to open an account. If you plan to drive a long distance, a call would be advisable to ensure they don't have any local limitations on new accounts.
Since it's new, the bank is labeled as a start-up at both BauerFinancial and Bankrate without any ratings for safety and soundness. The bank has been a FDIC member since January 5, 2009 (FDIC Certificate # 58764).
