Top 18-Month CD Rate at Security Service FCU in TX & CO - Local Only

Security Service Federal Credit Union

Security Service Federal Credit Union continues to offer several competitive CD and IRA CD rates. There's a new good deal on an 18-month CD: 1.75% APY for a $100K minimum (1.60% APY for $500 minimum). In addition, the competitive long-term CD rates have remained the same. The following is a few of the top CD rates as listed in the credit union's rate sheet as of 2/15/2011:

  • 3.50% APY 7-year CD, $100K min
  • 3.00% APY 5-year CD, $100K min
  • 2.20% APY 3-year CD, $100K min
  • 1.75% APY 18-month CD, $100K min

Rates are slightly lower for smaller deposits. For a $500 minimum deposit, the rates are 15 basis points lower than the rates listed above. These rates are available for both CDs and IRA CDs.

For more details about these CDs, please refer to the credit union's truth in savings disclosure and search for "share certificate". I have more details on the early withdrawal penalties in my January post.

Credit unions in the San Antonio, Texas area are in stiff competition with each other when it comes to share certificates and certificates of deposit rates. This has resulted in some of the better rates available anywhere. One of the main competitors of Security Service Federal Credit Union is Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union. They have also consistently offered high rates on their certificates.
