First Community Credit Union of Houston is offering two competitive long-term CD and IRA CD rates: 2.90% APY for 5 years and 1.90% APY for 3 years. Minimum deposit is $500. The rates for Jumbo CDs with a $100K minimum deposit are 3.00% APY for 5 years and 2.00% APY for 3 years. These rates are listed in the credit union's rates page as of 2/23/2011.

As a comparison to banks that offer nationally available CDs, the best 5-year CD rate is 3.00% APY at Kaiser Federal Bank (as of 2/23/2011).

The credit union still offers a reward checking account. I first reported on this in Houston reward checking account in March 2009. The top rate has remained at 3.01% APY, but the balance cap has fallen from $20K to $10K.
