Citadel Credit Union

Citadel Credit Union is offering some good deposit deals. They bumped up their CD and IRA CD rates for 3, 4 and 5-year terms. These include a 2.30% APY 3-year CD, a 2.50% APY 4-year CD and a 3.00% APY 5-year CD. Minimum deposit is $500. These rates are listed at the credit union's rates page as of 4/18/2011.

The credit union is also having a checking account promotion. Here are the details I received in their reply to my email questions:

We are having a promotion right now for new checking accounts. Anyone member who would like to open a checking suffix will receive a $100.00 gift card to their choice of either Bed Bath and Beyond, Best Buy, or Home Depot.

I don't see this promotion on their website, so if you're thinking about joining, be sure to contact the credit union for more details. They do offer a free checking account.

Membership

The main reason I emailed the credit union was to find out about their field of membership. I wasn't able to find any details on their website. Here's what I received:

Our charter is for the following: "Persons who live, work (or regularly conduct business), worship, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in Bucks Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia counties, Pennsylvania."

Citadel Credit Union branches are located in several Pennsylvania cities from the suburbs of Philadelphia to Lancaster.

It's a large credit union with $1.51 billion in assets. The credit union has an overall health score of 4 stars (out of 5) with a Texas Ratio of 8.02% (above average) based on December 2010 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Citadel Credit Union for more details. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 2099).

How These CDs Compare?

If you're in Pennsylvania, Police and Fire Federal Credit Union continues to offer 3.00% APY 5-year CD and a 2.50% APY 4-year CD (as of 4/18/2011). PFFCU is easy to join for anyone in PA. However, their 3-year CD rate is only 2.00% APY vs. Citadel's 2.30% APY.

Found a slight error. The 2.50% APY is actually applicable to a CD for a 4 year term.
