Sandy Spring Bank is offering a $100 bonus for opening any of its personal checking accounts and establishing direct deposit. The promotion is scheduled to last until 10/31/2012. The offer is listed at the bank's personal checking page. Below is the small print of the offer:
Account must be opened between 8/1/12 and 10/31/12. Limited time offer available only to individuals who currently do not have a personal checking account with Sandy Spring Bank or have not had one within the last 90 days. Offer subject to change and cancellation without notice. Only one of each reward per personal checking account. To receive the $100 Reward you must establish a personal checking account with direct deposit. Minimum direct deposit to qualify is $100 in the first 90 days, from a paycheck, pension, social security or other regular monthly income electronically deposited. Transfers from one account to another or deposits made at the branch or ATM do not qualify as direct deposits. Reward will be deposited into the checking account within 90 days of direct deposit being established, to accounts in good standing. All applicable taxes are the sole responsibility of the recipient.
The bank does offer a free checking account with no monthly service fees. The bank is a member of the Allpoint ATM network which gives customers surcharge-free access to ATMs nationwide. For more checking account details, refer to the bank's checking comparison chart.
There's an online application. However, I was told by the CSR that they only accept customers in their market area of Maryland and Virginia.
If you do live in their market area, you can apply online and avoid a branch visit. You can also visit one of their branches. Sandy Spring Bank branches are located in several Maryland and Virginia cities. Some of the cities include Annapolis, Bethesda, Columbia, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Silver Spring, Leesburg, Fairfax and Arlington.
The bank has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 5 stars (out of 5) with a Texas ratio of 13.30% (above average) based on June 2012 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Sandy Spring Bank for more details. The bank has been a FDIC member since 1934 (FDIC Certificate # 4865).
