Update 8/23/13: The 17-month CD special has expired
Numerica Credit Union has the best CD promotion that I’ve seen since June. Numerica is offering a special 17-month CD with a 1.70% APY. Minimum deposit is $1,000, and new money is required. This offer is scheduled to end on August 17th. The offer is listed at Numerica’s Specials & Promotions page as of 8/8/2013.
At the start of its online application, Numerica Credit Union lists three options to qualify for membership. These include:
- Live, Work or Worship in Washington State
- Live, Work or Worship in the North Idaho Panhandle, State of Idaho
- Persons related by blood or marriage to, or reside with, a person eligible for membership
There’s a link to this online application at the Join Numerica page. One downside with this credit union is a $20 membership fee for new members. That's high compared with most all other credit unions.
Numerica Credit Union branches are located in Spokane, North Idaho, the Tri-Cities and the Wenatchee Valley. Numerica is part of the shared branch network, CU Service Centers. This allows Numerica members to conduct many banking transactions at the branches of other credit unions throughout the nation.
Numerica Credit Union has long offered a reward checking account called Sequel Checking. I first reported on this account in 2008 when the top yield was 5.01% for up to $25K. The rate has fallen, and the top yield is now 1.35% for up to $25K (as of 8/8/13).
The credit union has an overall health score at DepositAccounts.com of 5 stars (out of 5) with a Texas ratio of 4.97% (excellent) based on March 2013 data. Please refer to our financial overview of Numerica Credit Union for more details. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 66841).
