Special 5-Year CD Rates at American Heritage Federal Credit Union

Another credit union has raised its 5-year CD rate over 2%. The latest one is American Heritage Federal Credit Union in Philadelphia. It has two special 5-year CDs. One is an “OnLine Teller Special” with a 2.10% APY. The other is an in-branch special with a 2.05% APY. IRA certificates are not eligible for the online special. Minimum deposit is $1,000. These rates are listed in the credit union’s rates page as of 9/26/2013.

The credit union’s CD details are listed in its Truth in Savings for Certificates document. This is available at the credit union’s disclosures page. According to this document, the early withdrawal penalty for terms of 12 months and over is the 180 days’ dividends.

The credit union often has checking account bonuses. The current one isn’t that great, but if you open this CD, you might want to consider it. You can earn up to $40 for using various online banking services, and there’s an additional $25 refer-a-friend bonus. Details are listed in the credit union’s newsletter as of 9/26/2013.

Credit Union Membership

The credit union offers an easy way to allow anyone to join. If you click on the "join today" link in the credit union's How to Join page, it'll take you to an online application. In the second page of this application, you can select "I want to join via Kids-N-Hope Foundation". There is a $15.00 donation required to join Kids-N-Hope Foundation.

Many in the Philly area can join without the help of this foundation. Membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and certain other parts of the Metro area. Please refer to the credit union's Who Can join page for more details. Membership requires a $15 minimum deposit into a share savings account.

Thanks for continuing to research  and communicate deals that are available to everyone who want to save money.  The forum post have just been too depressing to even read anymore.  Interest rates continuing to drop, RCA requirements becoming more onerous, and the devaluation of points earned from CC purchase programs.  Its become a never-ending nightmare. Thanks Ken for your contributions of good news.
