Availability
Headquartered in Lakewood, Washington, Harborstone Credit Union’s field of membership (FOM) includes all U.S. citizens and resident aliens who live, work, or worship anywhere in Washington State.
Washington State’s credit unions are unique in that their FOMs (in almost every instance) are open to virtually all residents of the state. Washington State Legislature’s rules on credit union membership limitations are broad and allow for liberal interpretation, resulting in universal membership eligibility, albeit limited to Washington State residents the vast majority of the time.
Harborstone’s exception to the Washington resident requirement are the family members of current Harborstone members, members of the military (active/retired/reserve), and civil servants (active/retired). Those individuals are eligible for membership, regardless of where they live.
Joining Harborstone can be done online or at any of 17 Washington branches located in Bonney Lake, Bothell, Fife, Gig Harbor, Issaquah, Joint Base Lewis McChord, Kent, Lacey, Lakewood (2), Olympia, Puyallup, Seattle, Spanaway, Tacoma (2) and Tukwila.
A CD Special cannot be opened online, but can be opened at any of the above mentioned branch locations or by calling 253.584.2260 or 800.523.3641.
All members have a regular savings—it's your "share" of the credit union and means
you are a part owner: $5 minimum opening balance and $5 one-time membership fee.
Harborstone is a member of the CO-OP Shared Branch and ATM networks.
Our partnership with the CO-OP Network provides you with
access to thousands of ATMs and branches across the country.

Founded in 1955 as McChord Federal Credit Union, the original FOM was exclusive to the airmen of McChord Air Force Base. (McChord Field, the precursor to McChord AFB, served as a training site for bomber aircraft pilots who eventually participated in the Allied invasion of Italy, southern France, and the Doolittle Raid.) The Harborstone rebrand occurred in 1996 when the FOM was expanded to include all Washington resident. Two mergers with Prevail Credit Union (2013) and TULIP Cooperative Credit Union (2016) resulted in more branch locations, access to the CO-OP Shared Branching and ATM networks, and a focus on financial counseling. Harborstone Credit Union is currently the 12th largest credit union in Washington, with nearly 80,000 members and assets in excess of $1.3 billion.
