Earlier this week, APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU) added 185 bps to its 48-59 month CD, upping the APY to 2.80%. Like most of APGFCU’s CDs, the 48-59 month CD can be opened with a $100 minimum deposit; there is no stated balance cap.
If the “APG” name sounds familiar, it may be because Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union recently re-branded as APG Federal Credit Union.

The 48-59 month CD is also available as an IRA (Traditional, Roth, CESA, and SEP) earning the same APY, with the same funding requirements.
DA began tracking the 48-59 month CD in 2011 when the APY was 1.75%. The next three years saw a steady rate decline, with the 48-59 month CD eventually settling at 0.65% APY in April 2014, where it remained for two years.
According to CSR, the Early Withdrawal Penalty (EWP) for CDs with terms of 17 months or less is 90 days interest; CDs with terms of 18 months or greater will incur an EWP of 180 days interest.
Thanks to DA reader, marcal, for his Forum post about this hot deal.

(APG is the U.S. Army's oldest active proving ground, established on October 20, 1917, six months after the U.S. entered World War I.) Through a charter change and subsequent FOM expansion, APGFCU has grown to be Maryland’s fifth largest credit union, with more than 125,200 members and assets in excess of $1.2 billion.
APGFCU also has the distinction of being one of the few credit unions that has an indoor arena bearing its name: APG Federal Credit Union Arena at Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland.
