Arsenal Credit Union (MO/IL) 60-Month CD Earns 3.25% APY

Availability: Residents of the City of St. Louis, five Missouri counties, portions of four additional Missouri counties, and four Illinois counties, all in the greater St. Louis metropolitan area.

At the beginning of the year, Arsenal Credit Union (Arsenal CU) raised the rate on its 60-month CD to 3.25% APY; that rate is still in effect today. The minimum opening deposit is $500, with no stated balance cap. The 60-month Youth CD also earns 3.25%, but only requires a $100 minimum deposit.

The CD is also offered as an IRA (Traditional and Roth), earning the same APY with the same funding requirements.

DA has been tracking the 60-month CD for more than eight years, but it only became competitive in the last few months, as many other long-term rates dropped.

As stated in the Account Disclosures, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:

We will impose a penalty if you withdraw any of the funds before the maturity date.

For accounts having a term greater than one year, the penalty imposed will equal 180 days of interest on the amount withdrawn.

Availability

Headquartered in Arnold, Missouri, Arsenal Credit Union's field of membership (FOM) is primarily residency based, with individuals who live or work in the Missouri counties of Franklin, Jefferson, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, or St. Louis, and the southwest Illinois counties of Madison, Monroe, Randolph, or St. Clair eligible to join.

The FOM also includes specific Zip Codes in Camden, Jasper, Miller, and Morgan Counties, Missouri.

Individuals who live or work in the City of St. Louis are also eligible. Although the City of St. Louis borders on St. Louis County, it is an independent city and not in the territory of any county.

Family members of anyone eligible to join Arsenal CU are welcome to apply. Family is defined as “parent, grandparent, brother, sister, child, grandchild, spouse, aunt, uncle, niece, nephew, first cousin. or legal guardian” and includes steps, in-laws and legally adoptive relationships.

Arsenal CU’s FOM includes a variety of Select Employee Groups (SEGs), the largest of which are the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Other SEGs include five local trade unions, local Federal government agencies, the St. Louis Coast Guard and National Guard, local USPS branches, and local real estate companies/associations.

Joining Arsenal CU and/or opening a CD can be done online or at any of four Missouri branches located in Arnold, Florissant, and St. Louis (2). There is also one Illinois branch in Swansea, which was acquired during a merger with Southern Illinois Area Credit Union.

With as little as a $5 deposit, you can start a savings account at the credit union.

Founded in 1948, Arsenal Credit Union was initially known as the Aero Chart Credit Union. The original FOM included employees of the Aero Chart Service, Plant and Store, a U.S. government agency that is now known as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). Rebranded as “Arsenal” in 1952, the new name was a tribute to NGA’s campus on the banks of the Mississippi, which was the site of the St. Louis Arsenal during the Civil War.
