Last week, Arsenal Credit Union (Arsenal CU) substantially raised the rate on its 24-month CD to 3.25% APY. The minimum opening deposit is $500, with no stated balance cap. The 24-month Youth CD also earns 3.25%, but only requires a $100 minimum deposit.

The CD is also offered as an IRA (Traditional and Roth), earning the same APY with the same funding requirements.
DA has been tracking the 24-month CD for about eight years, but it’s only been in the last three months that the APY has become competitive. Following three rate increases that added 150 bps, Arsenal CU's 24-month CD APY equals that of its 60-month CD.
As stated in the Account Disclosures, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:
We will impose a penalty if you withdraw any of the funds before the maturity date.
For accounts having a term greater than one year, the penalty imposed will equal 180 days of interest on the amount withdrawn.
Headquartered in Arnold, Missouri, Arsenal Credit Union's field of membership (FOM) is primarily residency based, with individuals who live or work in the Missouri counties of Jefferson and St. Louis, and the southwest Illinois counties of Madison, Monroe, and Randolph, eligible for membership. The FOM also includes portions of Camden, Franklin, Jasper, Miller, and Morgan Counties, Missouri.
Individuals who live or work in the City of St. Louis are also eligible. Although the City of St. Louis borders on St. Louis County, it is an independent city and not in the territory of any county.
Family members of current Arsenal CU members also qualify for membership. Family is defined as “parent, grandparent, brother, sister, child, grandchild, spouse or legal guardian” and includes steps, in-laws and legally adoptive relationships.
Arsenal CU’s FOM includes a variety of Select Employee Groups (SEGs), the largest of which are the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Other SEGs include five local trade unions, local Federal government agencies, the St. Louis Coast Guard and National Guard, local USPS branches, and local real estate companies/associations.
Joining Arsenal CU and/or opening a CD can be done online or at any of four Missouri branches located in Arnold, Florissant, and St. Louis (2). There is also one Illinois branch in Swansea, which was acquired during a merger with Southern Illinois Area Credit Union.
Arsenal CU participates in the Co-Op Shared Branching and ATM network.

Founded in 1948, Arsenal Credit Union was initially known as the Aero Chart Credit Union. The original FOM included employees of the Aero Chart Service, Plant and Store, a U.S. government agency that is now known as the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). Rebranded as “Arsenal” in 1952, the new name was a tribute to NGA’s campus on the banks of the Mississippi, which was the site of the St. Louis Arsenal during the Civil War.
