Atlantic Regional FCU (ME) Has Very Competitive 2-Month CD Special

When a new product with a good rate pops up on April 1, I tend to be a bit skeptical, but Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union’s (Atlantic Regional) 2-month Share Certificate Special (2.50% APY) is quite real and very competitive.

The minimum deposit is $500, with no balance cap, which is not typical for such short-term CDs with competitive APYs.

As stated in the fine print on Atlantic Regional’s Rates page,

A withdrawal of dividends will result in an annual percentage yield
lower than disclosed. No penalty for early withdrawal.

A 2-month term is very short, but if you open the CD with $100K, you'll earn about $250 more in this CD than in a 1% savings account.

Kasasa Cash

Atlantic Regional’s Kasasa Cash account was added to the product line in October 2012, and the initial 2.50% APY for qualifying balances up to $10k is still in effect. Balances greater than $10k earn 0.40% APY, with non-qualifying balances earning 0.05% APY.

The qualifying requirements to earn the stated APY are:

• Have at least 12 debit card purchases
• Be enrolled in and log into Online Banking
• Be enrolled in and receive e-Statements

Atlantic Regional’s Kasasa Cash has no minimum balance requirement, no monthly fees, and no penalty for not meeting account qualifications. Nationwide ATM fees will be reimbursed up to $20 per month, with individual ATM fees of $5 or higher requiring a receipt for reimbursement.

Availability

Headquartered in Brunswick, Atlantic Regional Federal Credit Union’s field of membership is primarily residency-based, with individuals who live, work, worship, or attend school in Cumberland or Sagadahoc Counties eligible to join.

In addition, Atlantic Regional’s Membership page states that "any relatives" of current members are eligible for membership.

Joining Atlantic Regional and opening a CD must be done in person at any of four Maine branches, located in Brunswick, Cumberland, Freeport, and Topsham.

Opening a Kasasa Cash account can be done either online or in person at any branch location.

Atlantic Regional offers an additional $250k of savings insurance through the Excess Share Insurance Corporation.
