BankVista (MN) Offers Rate-Leading Kasasa Cash Statewide
BankVista has nearly doubled the rate on its Kasasa Cash account: 6.00% APY on qualifying balances up to $25k. Qualifying balances above $25k earn 1.25% APY (higher than the typical secondary rate), with non-qualifying balances earning 0.25% APY.
This is the third blog post I’ve written this month about a reward checking account (RCA) with a 6% APY for balances up to $25k. With several online savings accounts offering 5.25%+ APYs, the 6% APY is needed to make the RCA worth the effort for many savers who are primarily concerned with maximizing interest earnings. It should be noted that most online-only banks have low rates on their checking accounts. So if you keep a sizable balance in a low-rate checking account, you could benefit from a reward checking account like BankVista’s Kasasa Cash account.
Qualifying Requirements
The Kasasa Cash and Kasasa Cash Back qualifying requirements to earn the stated APYs are quite easy to fulfill (no direct deposit of ACH transaction required).
- At least 10 debit card purchases per qualifying cycle.
- Be enrolled in and agree to receive eStatements.
- Be enrolled in and log into online banking at least once per qualifying cycle.
The Kasasa Cash account has no monthly service fee or minimum balance to earn rewards, but does require a $50 minimum opening deposit. Interest is credited to the Kasasa Cash account on the last day of the current statement cycle. ATM fees will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $4.99 per individual transaction. ATM fees of $5.00 or higher will be reimbursed if a supporting ATM receipt is presented. A free Master® debit card will be issued following account opening. There is a limit of one Kasasa Cash account per Social Security number and is required to have a companion Kasasa Saver account.
Kasasa Saver
The Kasasa Saver account currently earns 4.00% APY on qualifying balances up to $25k. Qualifying balances above $25k earn 1.25% APY, with non-qualifying balances earning 0.25% APY.
Earned rewards from the Kasasa Cash account are automatically transferred each month to the Kasasa Saver. There is no monthly service fee or minimum balance required to earn rewards, but a $50 minimum opening deposit is required. There is a limit of one Kasasa Saver account per Social Security number.
Annual Earnings of Combined Kasasa Cash Checking/Kasasa Saver Accounts
The potential combined annual earnings of the Kasasa Cash Checking (6.00% APY/$25k) and the Kasasa Saver (4.00% APY/$25k) is approximately $2,500 (5.00% APY/$50k).
Kasasa Cash Back
The BankVista Kasasa Cash Back account currently earns 2.00% cash back on debit card purchases, limited to the first $400 in monthly debit card purchases. The maximum annual earnings for the Kasasa Cash Back account is $96 ($8 per month).
The Kasasa Brand
For those not familiar with the Kasasa brand, Kasasa Cash is a type of Reward Checking Account (RCA) developed by the Texas company, Kasasa, Ltd. According to the Kasasa website,
Kasasa is an award-winning financial technology and marketing services company that provides reward checking accounts consumers love, the first ever loan with take-backs™, and ongoing expert consulting services to community financial institutions.
In 2003, a small group of Kasasa's founders set up shop in an old school building in Taylor, Texas. Their mission: to develop, market, and consult on software products for community banks in Central Texas. Their original REWARDChecking® account would play a pivotal role in the future of the company.
Today, Kasasa provides the community banking industry with world-class marketing, dedicated resources, and innovative products. These products include Kasasa Rewards Accounts, our free checking product suite, which delivers controlled growth through new accounts, non-interest income, increased profitability, and long-term retention. We’ve also developed the award-winning Kasasa Loan®, the only loan that lets borrowers pay extra to get ahead...and take back any extra if they need it.
