Citadel raised the rates on all its CDs at the end of last week. Of the ten CDs in Citadel’s product line, the three long-term CDs, 48-, 60-, and 84-month are the most competitive.
Last September, Citadel raised the rates on these same long-term CDs, and those increased rates last approximately four months.
Citadel’s CDs that have three rate tiers based on deposit balances ($500+, $25K+, and $75K+), with each subsequent tier a uniform 5 basis points higher.
All the above mentioned CDs are also available as IRAs (Traditional and Roth) earning the same tiered APYs.
As stated on Citadel’s FAQs page, the Early Withdrawal Penalty reads as follows:
For a Certificate with a term of more than 12 months, 180 days of interest penalty is assessed.

Citadel was established in 1937 (NCUA Charter # 2099) as the credit union for Lukens Steel Company. As the story goes, a couple of steel mill workers decided to put a dollar in a tin box every week, and if anyone needed a small loan, they could borrow from the tin box, as long as they agreed to pay it back. From the most humble of beginnings, Citadel has grown into a full-service credit union with more than 160,600 members and assets in excess of $2.2 Billion.
