4.07% 12-Month CD at Energy Credit Union in Massachusetts

POSTED ON BY

Update 1/16/09: The CD rate has fallen. Please check the credit union's website for the latest rates.

Energy Credit Union is offering a 4.07% APY 12-month CD. Minimum deposit is $1,000. The CD is also available in an IRA. This rate is listed in the credit union's rate table as of 1/07/09. Since the rate table had an October date, I called the credit union. I was told that this is still available. The CSR didn't know how much longer it would last but expected it to last for a while.

Membership is open to those who live or work in certain communities of Massachusetts and to employees and retirees of KeySpan Energy New England. The eligible communities include those in Norfolk and Suffolk counties. Please refer to the credit union's About Page for the full details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $10 in the share savings account.

The credit union has some strong ratings for soundness: 5 stars (superior) at BauerFinancial and 4 stars (sound) at Bankrate.com. Both ratings are based on 9/30/08 data. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 66369).
