3.50% Reward Checking Account at a Wisconsin CU (Harbor)

Update 8/08/09: The yield has fallen to 3.50% APY. Refer to the bottom of the post for the rate history.

Harbor Credit Union has a reward checking account called Go Green Checking. It pays 3.50% APY on balances up to $25,000 (0.75% for above) and refunds ATM fees (up to $25 per cycle) if the following monthly requirements are met: 1) 12 Visa Check Card transactions, 2) one direct deposit or one ACH auto debit or one online bill pay, and 3) receive e-Statements. If these are not met, the rate falls to 0.05%. The minimum opening deposit is $50. There are no minimum balance requirements or monthly service charges.

Membership is available to those who either work or reside in Brown, Door, Kewaunee, Manitowoc, Oconto, Outagamie, Shawano, or Waupaca Counties in Wisconsin. Please see their Become A Member page for more details. Membership requires a minimum balance of $25 in your share savings account.

Branches are located in Green Bay, Algoma and Luxemburg, WI. The credit union is federally insured by the NCUA (Charter # 66849). It has $88.0 million in assets and 13,538 members.

04/08/08: 5.67% APY up to $25K; 1.05% over $25K; 0.20% base rate

The footnote (small print) does say 0.2% APY for default (base) rate if requirements not met, BUT middle of page says 0.10% APY.

As of 3/5/09 the top rate has fallen to 4.55% APY. Other rates remain same.
