NorthCountry Federal Credit Union (NorthCounty FCU) has a Kasasa Cash checking account that earns 2.01% APY on qualifying balances up to $10k; qualifying balances over $10k earn 0.25% APY, with non-qualifying balances earning 0.05% APY.

NorthCountry FCU has been offering the Kasasa Cash account for almost three years, and is promoting it as an upgrade to its regular checking account holders.

If you don’t meet the qualifications, your account functions like a regular free account. You won’t earn rewards, but you won’t pay a penalty either, and you can try again the following month.

Kasasa Cash Qualifying Requirements

The qualifying requirements to earn the stated APY are:

  • Have at least 15 Debit Card purchases
  • Be enrolled in and receive e-Statements
  • Be enrolled and log into online banking

NorthCountry FCU’s Kasasa Cash has no minimum balance requirement, no monthly fees, and no penalty for not meeting account qualificiations.

Headquartered in South Burlington, NorthCountry Federal Credit Union offers membership to individuals who live, work, worships, or attends school in the northern Vermont counties of Addison, Caledonia, Chittenden, Essex, Franklin, Grand Isle, Lamoille, Orange, Orleans and Washington.

Joining NorthCountry FCU and/or opening a Kasasa Cash account can be done online, or at any of nine Vermont branches located in Alburgh, Barre, Burlington, Colchester, East Montpelier, Lyndonville, Newport, Orleans, and South Burlington.

NorthCountry Federal Credit Union was chartered in 1950 as the General Electric (Burlington) Employees' Federal Credit Union. The original Credit Union only served employees of G.E. and their families from a small office located within the G.E. plant, which could only be accessed with an escort. In the late 80s, G.E. was affected by defense budget cutbacks and the Credit Union recognized the need to expand its field of membership. NorthCountry FCU came into being in 1993, following a change in charter and the acquisition of two other Vermont credit union.
